A brilliant man rising in the business horizon, Sanjay Jain is the Country Managing Director for Accenture in India. Jain is also responsible for leading the Products vertical in India and is a thought leader on Manufacturing and FMCG segments. His in-depth knowledge of automotive sector is an asset that has helped many key clients in this area to enable substantial improvement in their business performance. Jain took over as Accenture's Country Managing Director on September 1, 2001. He is a B.Tech from IIT, Delhi and an MBA from Miami University, USA. He joined the firm’s Cincinnati office in 1986 and returned to India in 1990, where he was instrumental in setting up the New Delhi Office.

At his present post, he is responsible for leading the Products vertical in India and is a thought leader on Manufacturing and FMCG segments. According to Jain, entrepreneurial behavior is fundamental to all businesses. In order to liberate entrepreneurial spirit among employees, Jain has tried to create a strong shared vision; create an organization that allows them to be big and work small; build belief that entrepreneurship is valued and encourage diversity of thinking. Today, outsourcing is doing a somersault but unlike before when American companies outsourced work to India, the recent trend is of Indian companies outsourcing work to American multinationals. In his true entrepreneurial behavior, he says that the goal is not just Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) but Business Transformation Outsourcing (BTO), explains Jain.

Outsourcing has moved from IT infrastructure management to IT application management, and now the trend is towards outsourcing finance and accounts, HR, supply chain management and even procurement. Outsourcing benefits only when it not only offers cost advantage but also adds value to business. This is business transformation outsourcing. The provider of services, Jain explains bring global skills and knowledge of best business practices to bear on the organisation. Reflecting on the changing business paradigm, Jain says that businesses are about alliances and partnership and the mindset needs to be one of collaboration and trust is the core factor in any relationship. He is also a man who feels that when you want something done right, do it yourself. Hence, he says that to drive business value, it is imperative to stop blaming the government and shift focus to realigning internal operations. Jain says, "To drive competition, the onus need not be put only on the state.

While the growth of software has outpaced the industry, the manufacturing growth has remained stagnant. While there clearly are actions that the Government needs to take, the private sector and individual organizations can vastly improve efficiencies by realigning internal operations to drive business value. The manufacturing industry in India - a major contributor to the overall GDP of the country - in the past few years has missed an opportunity to help drive the country's overall economic development. Ours is an effort to turn this around through specific suggestions that could contribute to the growth of the manufacturing sector in India," he added. Somebody had said quite correctly that if intellectuals solve problems, it's geniuses that prevent them. And Jain definitely belongs to both the categories, who has not only solved problems but have also prevented many of it, and capitalised on them.
