Giving cent percent to your work may be possible. But producing 100 percent results falls into the premium category. Everyone says it is tough to work in Max New York Life India. The reason? A fulfillment of nothing short of 100% growth target. When you have a go-getter like Anuroop 'Tony' Singh as the Vice-Chairman, you cannot expect anything less.
After he qualified as Chartered Accountant in 1976, Singh did his articleship from A.F. Ferguson and Co., a leading firm of public accountants in India, where he also spent two years as a Management Consultant. He then worked overseas, with Ernst & Young. He spent most part of his career in the banking industry before joining Max New York Life. He was earlier the Country Head (India) and the Regional Head (consumer banking, Middle East and South Asia) for ANZ Grindlays Bank.
For five years, he was the Country Ggeneral Manager for retail banking at Bank of America. Prior to that, he was with American Express for 15 years in various capacities. He has successfully integrated himself with the insurance industry, and is now also the Managing Director (South Asia) of New York Life International and is responsible for the development and success of the company's business in South Asia. He has also been recently elected as a Director of Perot Systems.
Achievers stay happy in MNYL. That is because Tony Singh sticks to the company philosophy of rewarding performance. Singh virtually insures that rewards for the high performers go beyond just soulless cash. He meets every one of the company's employees at least twice a year at presentations, organized at the 20 offices across the country. There, he discusses the vision and values of the company. MNYL has a policy of goal-setting for its agents. They are encouraged to set personal goals-it could be money for son's education for one and a certain number of hours devoted to a particular cause for another-and then break up these goals into finite targets to be achieved year after year. And he also has a vision for the company.
Singh's philosophy is crystal clear. Here are his wishes: "We want to be the most admired life insurance company in India. We want our company to be the first choice for agents to join. We want to be the most preferred brand to be bought in the marketplace and we want to see ourselves as the most preferred employer in the life insurance domain and we certainly want to become profitable by 2007." With Singh leading, MNYL's success in India is set to be insured for sure. |
