Andrew Fyfe
Title : Flying High

Company Name : Virgin Atlantic Airways, India
Designation: Regional Mgr, Middle East

He was born in London and lived close to Heathrow. As a child, he was amused by the sight and sound of every aircraft that flew over their house. And not surprisingly, his young mind traveled across the sky and wanted to touch the moon. He had also a passion of collecting aircraft registration numbers and spent weekends at Heathrow and Gatwick. That's Andrew Fyfe. Yes, Richard Branson knew who he was looking for to head Virgin Atlantic Airways' operations in India, a market with immense potential. He picked up Andrew Fyfe to head the Indian chapter of Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Andrew has brought with him more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. Andrew joined his first airline in Gatwick Airport and later moved to British Caledonian Airways. To learn and experience the other aspects of the airline business, Andrew took up the position of Airport Manager with a Canadian Airline, Wardair. But he soon realized that what interested him was scheduled airlines business. It was then that Cathay-Pacific selected him to lead the opening of its new Blue Ribbon route from London to Hong Kong. The success of the assignment led to larger responsibilities and Andrew remained with Cathay-Pacific for almost 19 years.

During his stay with Cathay-Pacific, Andrew held a wide variety of airport and country management positions in the UK and continental European countries. Prior to joining Virgin Atlantic Airways, Andrew was with Qatar Airways at its head office in Doha. Part of the top-level team at Qatar Airways, Andrew was responsible for the airline's entire airport operations network. Today as regional manager, India & Middle East, Virgin Atlantic Airways (India), Fyfe is currently focused on establishing Virgin as the preferred airline for travelers.

He has a three pronged strategy to establish Virgin as the brand in India. And his ingredients- greater Indian flavour on flights, strong relationship with trade, and building the aspirational value of Virgin brand. Fyfe is not new to Indian sky. Many of his staff at Qatar Airways were from India, and he feels the Indian culture and reads well an Indian mind. What's his ideal landing space after the hectic schedule of the day? It's nothing but a green golf course. He lives in Delhi with his wife and they have two children. He is in sync with Branson's ideology and is optimistic about his company's future in India. "Our focus will continue to be our customers and we wish to continue delighting them with personalised services and a unique on-board experience", believes Fyfe. Happy flying.
